Have you ever walked through a wild strawberry field when the berries are at their peak of ripeness? Oh, the aroma! I have the privilege of doing just that every summer for a few weeks beginning around mid June. You really have to look carefully for those tiny, aromatic berries, though finding them seems to be much easier for my dog Khloe--it's fun to watch her sniff her way through a patch of wild berries, gobbling all the tiny red fruit in her path (there's a short video on my Instagram of Khloe snacking on some yummy berries last summer). Thankfully she saves some for me to enjoy--even at a pick rate of only 2 cups per hour, the effort is definitely worth it! Strawberry rhubarb pie or strawberry shortcake? Yes, please!
So, that is the inspiration for my newest collection, Strawberries and Wildflowers, which features a bounty of tiny, red, ripe wild strawberries, yellow buttercups, blue forget-me-nots and a single daisy peeking out from between the red-tinged leaves of wild strawberry plants.
